Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a spunky and adorable 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who's sure to bring endless smiles to her new family. We don't know her full story, but she was found as a stray in Houston and, given her past with puppies, likely didn't have an easy life before reaching the city shelter. Fortunately, a kind shelter employee saw her potential and reached out to us, and we were thrilled to rescue her! Ginger is a friendly, confident girl with a low to medium energy level. She gets along wonderfully with most dogs, especially other small, playful pups. In her foster home, she's developed a special fondness for one of the resident boys and can often be found trying to coax him into a game – it’s truly heartwarming to watch!
Ideal Home
Gingersnap would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she loves to play hard and then relax just as intensely. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's a confident girl and could do well in various home settings, a home without young children would be best due to her tendency to be startled.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which is expected to be completed in September.
Training & Support
Gingersnap is already potty-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. She sees her crate as her "zen den" and will happily retreat to it for quiet time. She has shown no signs of separation anxiety when left alone. While she's generally great with handling, she can sometimes be startled if approached unexpectedly, letting out a little shriek. She has become less reactive to surprises as she's settled into her foster home. Continuing to work on basic commands will be beneficial for her safety.
