River is a wonderful 5-year-old, purebred Catahoula Leopard Dog who holds a special place in our hearts. He was surrendered to us due to his family's unforeseen life changes, but thankfully, he never had to experience the stress of a shelter. River's world was turned upside down when he had to leave the only family he's ever known, but he's ready to find his forever home where he can share his boundless love and loyalty.
River is a handsome boy, weighing in at just under 70lbs. While he hasn't had formal training, his previous family did an amazing job with his basic obedience. He knows "sit," "down," and "shake," and is both crate and potty trained. River walks beautifully on a gentle leader leash and is well-behaved both in the home and on walks. His favorite activities include playing with toys and snuggling up on the couch with his people. River has been bonded with other dogs and generally does best with those who are not dominant. He currently fosters with a variety of dogs and gets along wonderfully with them all, as well as with cats. River is wary of young children and would thrive best in a home without kids or with teenagers aged 16 and older.
Ideal Home
River's ideal home will be an active one that showers him with the affection and attention he craves, while also providing a structured environment. He loves to please his people, whether he's practicing tricks at home or using his skills out in the world. He would be happy as an only dog or would bond with another canine companion. River enjoys sharing toys and couch snuggles with his foster siblings. He does not like to share his food with other dogs, so he is always fed in his crate. A fenced yard would be a bonus, but he is not suited for apartment or condo living. Experience with Catahoula-type breeds is a plus but not required.
Ongoing Health
River is fully vetted, neutered, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations and preventative medications.
Training & Support
River is a well-behaved boy who knows basic commands and is house and crate trained. He walks beautifully on a leash. His only noted behavioral concern is a reluctance to share food with other dogs, so he is fed separately in his crate.
