River is a 5-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog who has been cherished by his family and rescue team since puppyhood. After unexpected life changes led his family to surrender him, River is looking for a loving, structured home where he can receive plenty of affection and attention.

River weighs just under 70 pounds and is well behaved in the home and on leash walks. He enjoys playing with toys, practicing his skills, and snuggling on the couch. He knows sit, down, and shake, is crate and house trained, and walks beautifully with a gentle leader leash.

Ideal Home

River is active, affectionate, and eager to please. He can thrive as the only dog or bond with another dog. He currently lives successfully with dogs of many sizes and ages and is great with cats. Because he is wary of children, he would do best in a home without children or with children aged 16 and older.

He would love a fenced yard, although one is not required, and would not prefer apartment or condo living. Experience with River’s breed or a similar breed will be prioritized but is not required. River should be fed separately from other dogs, as he does not like sharing his food.

Ongoing Health

River is fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Training & Support

River has received a strong foundation in basic obedience despite not having professional training. He enjoys pleasing his people and would thrive with continued structure, affection, and opportunities to practice his skills.
