About Paloma

Paloma is an absolutely wonderful 1.5-year-old, 74lb Cane Corso mix who embodies everything people love about mastiff breeds. She is incredibly loyal, bonds deeply with her person, is strong-willed, and very smart, with the cutest body wiggles you have ever seen! Paloma was returned to the shelter by her previous owner after a year because they didn't have time for her and kept her as an outside dog. She was understandably scared and confused, even pancakeing in fear, which unfortunately landed her on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, she was rescued and has blossomed in foster care, showing us just how wonderful she is. She is extremely friendly with all people, showing zero signs of stranger danger and loving everyone, regardless of gender, age, or physical condition. Paloma is also terrific with other playful dogs around her size, having played beautifully with many dogs between 40-80lbs. However, she does have a more alpha personality, so if adopted into a home with another dog, that dog should be more neutral or submissive. Due to her high prey drive, she cannot be in a home with cats.

Ideal Home

Paloma is a high-energy young dog looking for an active home where she can get at least 1.5 hours of daily exercise. While she loves to be active, she also adores curling up in a little donut next to her human and can be very chill when her exercise needs are met. A mastiff and large breed owner who is willing to work with their dog daily, providing the fulfillment they need through routine and exercise, will see Paloma give them the world. She cannot be in a home with cats or small dogs.

Ongoing Health

Paloma is a healthy dog.

Training & Support

Paloma loves to train and is very in tune with her foster, responding readily to sounds and redirecting easily due to her deep bond with her human. Her adopter should be dedicated to continuing her leash and crate training. She is currently working on leash training using a figure-8 and a low-level e-collar for redirection, to which she responds very well. With crate training, she has improved significantly; on low-exercise days, she may vocalize for 10-20 minutes before settling, while on well-exercised days, she settles in immediately. An adopter should be excited to help her work through this, as she is just a puppy who was never exposed to indoor life.
