This sweet girl is Iris! She's a 3 and a half year old Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur mix, weighing in at 47 pounds. Iris was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas with her siblings and is now the last one waiting for her forever family. She's fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to fill your home with love and fun! Iris is goofy, playful, affectionate, and incredibly sweet, though she needs a little time to warm up to new people and dogs. She's a smart cookie who knows "sit," "down," and "wait," and absolutely adores belly rubs and playing fetch. Once Iris trusts you, she's all in, showing a loyal and loving side that's truly special.
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home would be best, as she hasn't been around young children and would do well with adults who can respect her need for space and understand her cues. A home where someone works from home would be ideal, allowing her to decompress and build confidence at her own pace.
Ongoing Health
Iris is generally healthy and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. She is spayed and microchipped.
Training & Support
Iris can be dog-selective and prefers slow, intentional introductions. While she's learned to build friendships with other dogs in her foster home, play works best when food and toys are put away. She can exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if she's in a multi-dog household. Iris is fully potty-trained and crate-trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on leash for shorter distances but can be reactive to dogs who get too close, so an owner skilled in creating distance and setting her up for success would be wonderful.
