If pure joy could grow four legs and a wagging tail, it would be Jay Smiles. Some dogs make you smile, but Jay makes you grin without even realizing it! This happy-go-lucky guy is around a year old and about 27 pounds, making him the perfect medium-small size – big enough for adventures and small enough to cuddle on the couch. We think he might be a Lab/Chihuahua mix, but as a rescue, breed is just our best guess. Jay is absolutely thriving and his foster family has learned that other dogs are the center of his universe. He adores his doggy friends and lights up when he sees them, doing the cutest little play hops that are sure to make you laugh. His favorite activity is playing tug with his foster sister, and he wakes up every morning ready for fun, showering her with kisses until she joins him.
Ideal Home
Jay truly blossoms when he has another pup by his side, so we are looking for a home with at least one playful dog. He also loves having a backyard for running, zooming, and exploring. Because he can be shy and needs time to build confidence, a quieter home without very young children would be the best fit. Older teenagers could be okay, as he prefers a more peaceful lifestyle.

Training & Support
Jay is crate trained, potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, knows how to sit, and shares treats beautifully with other dogs. He gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and has even been used during dog assessments due to his friendly and socially appropriate nature. Jay has met cats and may initially try to invite them to play, but responds well to guidance and would do best with a dog-savvy cat and another dog in the home.

Jay is currently located in Texas. We facilitate adoptions nationwide using our USDA certified transport system. Transport drop-off locations include WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT, TN, KY, WI, MN, IL, WI, and Canada. For Canadian adopters, pick-up is in Bellingham, WA, Buffalo, NY, or Brattleboro, VT.
