Hi there! My name is Haley, and while my exact age is a bit of a mystery, we think I'm around 6 years young. I might even have some Great Pyrenees in my lineage, though we haven't done a DNA test to confirm! A kind man and his friend rescued me and my young son from a shelter in Virginia many years ago, with the intention of fostering me until a spot opened up at Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue (AGPR). Well, the nice man fell in love with us and decided to keep us! Sadly, he passed away, and his friend reached out to AGPR to ensure I would be safe and loved until my forever family found me. AGPR welcomed me with open paws!
I can be a little shy at first, but a few Milk Bones or tasty treats have a way of winning me over. I have a special volunteer who always has a full pocket, and I can't help but follow her, hoping for a sneaky treat from her sweatshirt! She calls me her "silly girl" when I try to "shake her down" for goodies. While I enjoy some time outdoors, I truly love being inside with my people. I enjoy leisurely walks where I can sniff and explore, but busy roads and lots of activity can be a bit nerve-wracking for me since I'm used to a more peaceful, rural setting. I'm also quite content being the only "girl" in the family and the center of your attention!
Ideal Home
I would do best in a home that can provide a securely fenced-in yard, at least four feet high, as is recommended for Great Pyrenees. I'd also prefer a quieter environment, away from busy roads and a lot of commotion, and I'm happiest being the only pet in the home.
Ongoing Health
I am healthy and have no known health conditions.
Training & Support
I'm still working on my confidence in new situations, but a patient approach and tasty treats go a long way!
