About Easter

Pet Location: Easter is currently living in a foster home. If you’d like to schedule a time to meet her, please contact Wayside Adoptions at (816) 986-4426.

My friends at Wayside say:

  • I am a tripod. Even though I have three legs, I would love to run straight into your heart.
  • I’m a little shy—slow and steady wins the race with me.
  • I will do best with dogs who prefer to coexist. -I am housebroken in my foster home.

My home needs are:

  • Wayside recommends that you bring your dog to meet me before adoption to ensure we can be buddies.
  • I must have a fenced-in yard since I am still learning to walk on leash.
  • I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises.

Hi there, I’m Easter! I’m calm and affectionate and possibly the sweetest dog you’ve ever met. That’s what my friends tell me anyway. My life hasn’t been an easy one, that’s for sure, but I’m resilient and forgiving. I just want to live a safe and peaceful life with people I love, that’s all. That’s enough for me. I hope that maybe you’re looking for a simple little dog to share your life with, and that you decide to choose me. I’m ready to be your dog!

I’m a darling, 2-year-old, 35-pound Beagle mix, with soft, floppy ears, gentle, soulful eyes that turn bright and engaged once I know you’re my people, and an unassuming, easy-going, lovely personality. I’m already housebroken, too, although please stay patient with me as I get settled in, as an adjustment period is normal. Please keep me on a schedule to help set me up for success. I was transferred to Wayside from a shelter in rural Texas that didn’t have space for me. One of my legs was amputated right before I arrived in KC, so I’m still getting used to that. And I’m recovering from heartworm treatment...and the move to a new state...and just being a shy little gal to start with. Whew, that’s a lot. With a little time and patience, I’ll be as good as new and all settled into my new life! Meanwhile, though, shelter living was feeling scary and lonely, so I was thrilled to be chosen to live in a foster home as I wait for you to find me! Foster Mom makes me feel special and important. Ah, that feels so nice.

My foster parents understood from the start that I had been through a lot of change and instability in my short life, so they let me take things at my own pace, which has helped to put me at ease. I’ve been working so hard to just be a normal family dog, and I’ve already made tons of progress. Sure, everything was super scary and strange those first few days, but I’ve found that I love to lounge on the deck or in our fenced backyard, I’m an expert at cuddling with both of my foster parents, I get so excited for mealtime, I’m quiet and gentle and well behaved. I have excellent house manners, never bothering a thing. And I love a good belly rub! My favorite thing, though, is to peacefully sleep through the night in the bed, snuggled up right next to Foster Mom. This is a luxury that I will never, ever take for granted.

I love living the life of a couch potato. I’ve grown quite fond of my foster home, and I’m perfectly happy and content to spend all of my days here. With time, I’ll grow to love my new home with you as well. Please stay patient and calm with me, gently praising and encouraging me when I’m a good girl. I’m a sensitive soul, so it’s important to never be harsh with me. I hope you will understand and be okay with my quirks. I can be wary when someone comes at me, so please let me decide when and if I want to approach people. Sometimes I need to be picked up and carried when I’m afraid. And I don’t like to be confined to a crate or a small area, but I’m so well behaved that this isn’t really necessary anyway. I’m still learning how to walk on a leash, and I get very nervous when I get leashed up, so I will need to have a securely fenced yard in my new home.

I get along just fine with the other dogs that I live with in my foster home. Like me, they prefer to strictly coexist, and we enjoy each other’s company without engaging in play, which suits us all fine. I’ve been through a lot of change and instability in my short life, and I sometimes feel nervous with new people, so I will need a home with kids over the age of at least 6, who will respect my boundaries and give me space when I need it. I hope to find a quiet and calm home without a lot of commotion and with kind people who will love me just the way I am.

Life can be so unpredictable and worrisome at times. But just when you start to wonder if you’ll ever have the life you dream of, things finally start to fall into place. I feel so lucky to have my chance to shine. I’m just an easy to love little dog who won’t ask for much. I’d like to be your constant companion, always there for you whenever you might need me. Let me do that for you. I’m ready!
