Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash is a handsome 2-year-old, 52-pound Sheltie/Heeler mix who spent much of his young life waiting in a rural Texas shelter before finding his way to us. He's a dog who was sadly overlooked for far too long, but when you meet him, you'll see there isn't a mean bone in his body. He's smart, loyal, and eager to bond, and he leans into affection and snuggles readily. Johnny Cash is playful and adventurous, loves being outdoors, and enjoys long walks. He wants to be part of whatever his people are doing, but he also has a softer side and is happy to curl up for some quality couch time. He's intelligent and observant, and like many herding breeds, he thrives when he has a person to love and a purpose.

Ideal Home

Johnny Cash needs a loving home where he can finally belong. Due to his prey drive, he cannot live with cats or free-ranging chickens.

Ongoing Health

Johnny Cash is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. We've learned that he appears to have some anxiety surrounding vehicles, likely stemming from past experiences. While he's done very well on multiple car rides, we recommend he travel safely secured in a crate or kennel. With patience and consistency, his confidence will continue to grow.

Training & Support

Johnny Cash is not a "project dog." He's simply a dog who has spent too much time without a home of his own. New environments can make him a little unsure at first, but once he realizes he's safe, his true personality shines. What he needs most isn't training, it's belonging.
