Meet Onyx, a sweet and charming 7-year-old Chi Dachshund mix who weighs around 20lbs. This delightful girl has a calm, gentle spirit and a personality that's sure to bring a smile to your face every day. Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all her preventatives, making her ready to find the loving home she truly deserves.
Onyx likely hasn't had the easiest start in life. She was rescued from the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Houston, and since then, she's been showing everyone just how special she is. She’s currently being fostered in San Antonio, but she can be transported out of state to the right approved adopter.
Ideal Home
Because she’s an older gal with a bit of arthritis, Onyx enjoys a slower pace. She would do best in a semi-active to low-activity household where she can enjoy short walks and plenty of relaxing time. She does love a good walk and will happily trot along until she gets a little winded, then she’s ready to settle in for neck scratches, belly rubs, and a cozy nap. While she enjoys playing with toys, especially destroying sticks and balls in the yard, her ideal home will understand her need for rest. She has done well with respectful kids ages 7–12 and would do best with older, dog-savvy children.
Ongoing Health
Onyx is a bit older and has some arthritis, which is why she enjoys a slower pace.
Training & Support
Onyx is house-broken, sleeps in her crate at night by choice, and can be crated up to 10 hours if needed. She doesn’t resource guard, shows no food aggression, and can even be trusted to free roam the house without being destructive. She gets along well with other dogs and enjoys running around with them, though she can get a little excited on leash when greeting new dog friends, so continued leash training would be beneficial. She hasn’t been around cats yet.

Transportation
Onyx is currently being fostered in San Antonio. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
