Meet Rufio, a handsome Cane Corso mix who currently weighs 66 pounds. His foster mom is diligently working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds. Rufio was rescued from the streets in early January 2026 and is gradually learning that he can trust humans.
He's a shy and quiet boy with a sweet, gentle nature. It takes him a little time to warm up to new people, but he quickly began following his foster mom around, seeking affection, and joining the family on the couch and bed. Rufio adores his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the younger son being his absolute favorite! While he's a bit intimidated by his foster dad and tends to retreat, he shows no aggression. Progress is being made slowly and patiently.
Rufio has a low to medium energy level. He enjoys evening walks and shows no reaction to other people or dogs. His leash manners are improving, and he's generally well-behaved. He's not a vocal dog, occasionally offering a soft whimper when excited or uncertain. A unique and endearing trait is his goofy howl when his foster mom leaves, which lasts only a couple of minutes.
He gets along wonderfully with his two senior Chihuahua housemates, who seem to be in charge despite Rufio's size. He yields to them and avoids conflict, and no resource guarding has been observed. Rufio would thrive with calm, well-mannered canine companions who can help him gain confidence.
Rufio is house-trained and will alert his family when he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained for when the family is away and tolerates it well, never having accidents. He sleeps soundly through the night, choosing between his foster parents' bed or a crate in their bedroom, as long as he is near his people.
This nervous boy would truly benefit from a patient family dedicated to helping him feel safe and loved. Witnessing a timid foster dog blossom under your care is an incredibly rewarding experience!
