Addie is a 4.5-year-old, spayed female pitbull terrier mix weighing around 45 pounds. She was rescued from the streets of a neighborhood known for being a dumping ground for unwanted pets. Addie was found nearly hairless from mange, underweight, and had clearly experienced a lifetime of struggle and raising litters. Despite her difficult past, she's a willing and promising pupil who is now lovingly embracing her new lease on life as a house dog. She is crate trained and sleeps soundly in her kennel at night, and can be left for up to 8-9 hours while her foster is at work. She has also been trusted to sleep loose in the house without issue. While she's still perfecting her house skills, she may have occasional accidents as she settles into her new home's routine. Addie is timid at first, but once she trusts you, she is overflowing with love and affection. She is a true survivor, proving the resilience of dogs no matter their past.
Ideal Home
Addie would thrive in a home that can provide her with 20-30 minute walks twice a day and a yard to roam and run in. She would love a male dog sibling of similar size (40-60lbs) to cuddle with and sleep next to. She is currently enjoying her "Soft Life Era" and would appreciate plenty of couches to lounge on. While she may do well with younger children who understand and respect animal behavior cues, older, calmer pre-teens and teenagers might be a better fit for her. We do not have history with cats.
Ongoing Health
Addie was rescued with mange and was significantly underweight, but is now on the road to recovery.
Training & Support
Addie is crate trained and house-trained, though occasional accidents may happen as she adjusts to a new routine. She has not shown any aggression around food or resources, but she is a "hungry, hungry hippo" and will try to eat other dogs' food, so we recommend feeding her separately. She is learning that she will receive another meal and is improving with this. Addie is not super playful, but when she does interact, she prefers male dogs of equal to larger size and learns cues to stop playtime. She is curious about female dogs but hasn't found a playmate yet.
