Chido

Charming Chido is a nearly 4-year-old, 63 lb American Bulldog mix with a heart full of love and a spirit of resilience. He came to us from the streets outside of Houston, and despite his past, Chido continues to trust people and animals. His gentle nature shines through his love for cats, and he makes friends easily with both humans and other animals. Chido enjoys short walks, playing with toys, and lots of naps – he's a champion sleeper! He's also gentle with children and most dogs, though he can be selective with canine companions. As long as other dogs respect his space and don't overwhelm him, they'll likely get along wonderfully.

Ideal Home

Chido would thrive in a patient household, ideally with someone who works from home or is retired, as he suffers from separation anxiety and would love a constant companion. He's an indoor companion and deserves all the love and comfort a home can offer. Loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks can frighten him, so he'll need comforting during these times.

Ongoing Health

Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on slow-kill medication (Heartgard), a low-cost monthly pill. He should be tested annually to monitor his heartworm status. He also experiences occasional hip arthritis, which can make it difficult for him to move initially. This has only happened twice since he's been in foster care and usually resolves with a gentle hip massage and rest. X-rays show inflammation but no broken bones. Aside from these conditions, Chido is a healthy and loving companion.

Training & Support

Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. He just needs a loving family to continue his training and provide reassurance, especially during thunderstorms or fireworks.
