Riley is a sweet 22-week-old, 2.6 lb bundle of energy with a big heart! He's been through a lot in his short life, starting with a surrender due to luxating patellas, but quickly revealing more significant medical challenges. Riley struggles to regulate his own blood sugar, requiring careful monitoring and supplemental support. He also has a small open fontanelle, which is a soft spot on his head that could potentially lead to neurological issues, though it's also possible he may never experience any problems. Additionally, he has a slight curve in his spine and is working through typical Yorkshire Terrier knee issues that are being managed as he grows. Despite these challenges, Riley is a playful pup who enjoys toys and interacting with other foster dogs. He's still learning the ropes of house training and can be a bit vocal when he wants to express himself.
Ideal Home
Riley needs a patient and dedicated home that can continue to manage his medical needs. A home that can provide consistent feeding schedules and is understanding of his ongoing health monitoring will be ideal.
Ongoing Health
Riley is currently being treated for hypoglycemia (difficulty regulating blood sugar) and is receiving Vitamin B shots monthly. He is on a prescription diet but may transition to another food in the future. He has a small open fontanelle and a slight curve in his spine. His knee issues are typical for his breed and are being monitored as he grows. He will require future vaccinations and neutering once his medical team deems him stable enough.
Training & Support
Riley is still working on house training and learning to communicate his needs to go outside. He can be vocal, so a home that understands and can redirect this behavior would be beneficial. Consistency with his feeding schedule and continued patience with his training will be key to his success.
