Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit typical of an Australian Kelpie mix. She's approximately 1 year old and weighs about 33 lbs. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies are active companions who thrive with people who enjoy outdoor activities, and Canela is no exception. She walks well on a leash and is incredibly social with dogs and people alike; strangers don't make her nervous at all. In fact, she’s incredibly friendly and affectionate! Canela has a playful and funny personality—she’ll even jump up as if she were a tiny Chihuahua, hoping to be picked up and cuddled! She is energetic, curious, and always ready for fun. Her story began when she was found alone playing in the street. Fearing for her safety, she was taken in, and since then, she has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit. Canela is ready to find a forever home where she can share her energy, affection, and loyal heart.

Ideal Home

Canela would be an ideal companion for someone who enjoys walks, exercise, or an active lifestyle. She needs a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. Families should have a genuine intention to rescue a dog, be understanding of the behaviors of street animals needing protection and education, and ideally have experience in dog behavior and training or be willing to hire a trainer. She requires high tolerance and patience.

Ongoing Health

Canela has received a spay/neuter certificate, 2 DHPPI vaccines, a rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. She has also had a 4DX test, a negative heartworm test certificate, and receives monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive protection. She comes with a health certificate and vaccine booklet.

Training & Support

Canela is not house-trained. Like many young and intelligent dogs, she can get bored without enough stimulation and may chew on objects, especially plastic. Providing toys and guidance will help her thrive. She may also bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. Potential adopters must have a high tolerance and patience for rescued puppies and understand that rescued dogs may require an adjustment period.

• If you are a potential match, we will arrange a call or video chat to introduce you to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour.
• We will speak with 1-2 of your references.
• If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and food.

Transportation

Canela is currently in foster care in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel. Transportation to the East Coast and other locations is available through our scheduled cross-country trips, which occur 3-4 times per year with a minimum of 15-20 adoptions per trip. We partner with a contracted transport company that ensures a safe and comfortable journey for our pets. For US adoptions, pets are escorted across the border into Texas. For Canadian adoptions, pets are delivered to the nearest US-Canada border. A one-time transport fee of $400 USD covers door-to-door delivery. You will receive real-time updates throughout the journey in a private Facebook Messenger group.
