Wonka, who also goes by Charlie, is a Super Snooty Lab who absolutely deserves some extra attention! While he might look like any other dog, Charlie has a special condition called IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). If you're familiar with IBD, you'll understand why this makes him a special needs pup. Just like humans, some dogs have a sensitive digestive system that can easily become inflamed. This means Charlie has a specific diet – he does best on the vegan food Wild Earth. While he's generally an easy-going guy, stressful situations can affect his belly.
IBD doesn't necessarily mean lots of accidents! For Charlie, it shows as bloating, which is why his belly and colon have been tacked to prevent bloat and flipping. Thankfully, this is minimal now that his food is figured out. Moving to a new home might mean he needs to go outside to potty more frequently at first. He might also get a bit nauseous and could lose a little weight. Since IBD is autoimmune, flares can be triggered by emotional and physical stress.
But let's focus on Charlie's wonderful qualities! He's the ultimate cuddler, amazing with other dogs, children, and every human he meets. Despite being quite sick before his condition was managed, he never stopped wagging his tail and carrying on as if everything was perfect. He's a Lab through and through, who just happens to have a sensitive stomach. Charlie loves car rides and exploring the world! Sometimes he gets a bit too excited, so you'll need to be okay with raising your voice a little to ask him to calm down and sit. You'll get to the dog park when you get to the dog park, Charlie! He's about six years old, and we're aiming to keep him around 60 lbs, but we'd be even happier if he could gain a little more weight.
