Scout

Scout is a 6-year-old Pomeranian mix who is looking for a very special home. He spent the first six years of his life as a breeder dog, often kept in a cage, which means he has had very little socialization. This has left him understandably fearful of people. To make matters more challenging, Scout was attacked by a larger dog in a subsequent home. This traumatic event has made him fearful of large dogs. Scout experiences a lot of anxiety and often spends his time pacing in his backyard. While he tolerates being picked up, he does not enjoy being held and is not a lap dog.

Ideal Home

Scout needs a quiet home where he can feel safe and slowly build confidence. He is not yet house-trained and shows a preference for soiling indoors, though belly bands are being used to help with this. He is a flight risk and panics on leash, making a securely fenced yard an absolute necessity.

Ongoing Health

Scout is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. He has also had senior bloodwork and a dental cleaning. He may benefit from anxiety medication.

Training & Support

Scout will require significant patience and dedication from his adopter. He needs extensive work on house training and may always have some indoor soiling habits. His fear of people and large dogs will take time to overcome. Working with a professional trainer is highly recommended to help Scout build confidence and manage his anxiety.
