Colt is a 16-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix with a big presence and an even bigger heart—this handsome guy weighs in at around 100 pounds. He came to us from Kentucky as a young puppy, already a survivor after enduring flooding and parvovirus. With his people, Colt is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loyal. He lives peacefully with other dogs and cats in his foster home. True to his guardian-breed roots, he’s naturally cautious with strangers and will need slow, thoughtful introductions. Colt absolutely loves being outdoors. Whether it’s soaking in the summer air or sitting in the snow in the middle of winter, he’s happiest when he can keep watch over his surroundings. He is always excited to go for a walk and has made great progress with his leash manners. He is fully crate-trained and house-trained. He frequently uses his crate as a resting place of his own accord. He’s a smart dog who learns routines and expectations quickly. He may try to appoint himself the “rule enforcer” with other dogs, so he’ll benefit from clear leadership from his human companions.
Ideal Home
Colt is looking for a calm, patient, and dog-savvy home. His ideal match would have experience with large guardian breeds, a securely fenced yard, and a confident, similarly sized dog companion. He doesn’t need a busy, high-energy lifestyle—just the right environment, steady guidance, and someone who understands his nature. Despite his breed mix, we are looking for an indoor home for Colt since he has always been raised in the house and has not been trained or acclimated to livestock. Homes with children over 12 years old should be ok due to his current size and activity level.
Ongoing Health
Colt had his initial vet check, is current on vaccines, de-wormings, and prescription flea and tick medications and he has been neutered.
Training & Support
He is fully crate-trained and house-trained. He’s a smart dog who learns routines and expectations quickly. He may try to appoint himself the “rule enforcer” with other dogs, so he’ll benefit from clear leadership from his human companions. He’s working hard on his leash training daily.
