Meet Essex, a delightful and spirited approximately 5-year-old, 10-pound companion who's as close to a Cockapoo as they come, according to his DNA! Essex is a master of self-entertainment, capable of amusing himself for hours with his favorite toys, and he absolutely loves to race around the yard. He also enjoys a good romp with other dogs, though he can be a bit bossy and may do best as an only dog or with a very laid-back canine friend. This intelligent pup walks well on a leash and is mostly house-trained, though he does have a tendency to occasionally mark other dogs' beds, indicating his precocious and alpha nature. Essex was rescued when he was very matted and was shaved down to the skin, but his beautiful coat is now growing back wonderfully!
Ideal Home
Essex would be a wonderful companion for an older individual or couple. He would do best in a home without young children, specifically those under the age of 8. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, he would thrive as an only dog or with a very mellow companion due to his alpha tendencies.
Ongoing Health
Essex's coat is growing in beautifully after being shaved down due to matting upon rescue. He is up-to-date on all his vaccinations, including Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and Canine Influenza, and is on monthly preventatives for heartworms, fleas, ticks, and parasites.
Training & Support
Essex is mostly house-trained but needs continued reinforcement to prevent marking behaviors. As an alpha and precocious dog, he requires an experienced owner who can provide consistent guidance and leadership.
