About Baka - Courtesy Listing

Baka is a 1-year-old spayed Great Dane with a heart as big as her paws! Despite her impressive size, she's still very much a puppy, bringing all the goofy, lovable, and sometimes mischievous energy that comes with it. Baka absolutely adores her people and truly believes she belongs on the couch, with her giant head resting in your lap. She delights in zooming around a fenced yard, playing with sticks, and soaking up all the attention from those she trusts. Baka is a smart cookie – she's mastered the art of opening lever-style door handles, often letting herself out to enjoy the yard! Her foster family affectionately jokes that she comes with her own built-in door service. Rescued from a puppy mill, Baka's early life lacked many crucial experiences for building confidence and learning to be part of a family. She has made incredible strides in foster care, learning to trust people, follow a routine, and see the world as a less scary place.

Ideal Home

Baka needs a patient family willing to give her at least 14 days to adjust to a new routine and settle in. A securely fenced-in yard is a must for her to romp and play. Due to her size and puppy enthusiasm, she would do best in a home without small children. Baka also has a prey drive, so a home without cats or other small animals is recommended. While she is good with other dogs, she would likely thrive as the only pet in the home, allowing her to receive all the attention and continue building her confidence without any competition.

Ongoing Health

To help manage her anxiety, Baka takes medication twice daily, which has significantly boosted her confidence and overall quality of life. This medication will need to continue after adoption. Her foster family has found that administering her dose about an hour before leaving the house helps her feel secure when home alone, and she's learning that being by herself is nothing to worry about.

Training & Support

Baka is making wonderful progress with crate training and knows the command "Kennel Up." She is crated when her foster family leaves the house, and she has learned that her crate is a safe space. They are also working on her sleeping in her crate at night to build even more positive associations with it. Her future family will need to continue being patient and supportive as she builds confidence and learns to trust.
