Charming Chido is a nearly 4-year-old, 63 lb American Bulldog and possible Boxer mix who has come a long way from his past on the streets of Houston. Despite a horrific past, Chido continues to have faith in people and other animals, showcasing his gentle nature with his love for cats. He makes friends easily with both people and animals. Chido enjoys short walks, playing with toys, and lots of sleep. He is gentle with children and most dogs, though he is dog selective. He does well with other dogs as long as they don't try to make him submit or jump on him.
Ideal Home
Chido would thrive in a patient household where someone works from home or is retired to provide him with companionship. He suffers from separation anxiety and would benefit greatly from a relaxed companion to hang out with. Chido is an inside-the-home companion, not an outside dog. Loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks can frighten him, and he will need comforting during these times.
Ongoing Health
Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on a slow-kill medication (Heartgard), which is a low-cost monthly pill. He should be tested annually to monitor his heartworm status. He also suffers from occasional hip arthritis, which makes it difficult for him to get around initially. This has only occurred twice since he has been in foster care and has not happened in recent months. He responds well to a quick hip massage and rest. X-rays show inflammation but no broken bones. Aside from the heartworm diagnosis, Chido is a healthy and loving companion.
Training & Support
Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. He is patient with children and most dogs, but his dog selectivity means he may need continued support in introductions to new canine friends.
