Meet Herbert, a truly unique and hilarious companion! This handsome 70-pound goofball, approximately 2.5 years old, was rescued from a high-kill shelter and is now looking for his forever home. Herbert is a master of making us laugh with his comical antics and boundless enthusiasm for life. He's a bit of a "derp," easily overstimulated and incredibly eager to please, which can lead to some wonderfully clumsy moments. He has no regard for personal space and can be a bit mouthy, but he's making great strides in impulse control and is doing wonderfully!
Ideal Home
Herbert would be a perfect fit for a single person or a couple who appreciate a dog that will constantly bring laughter into their lives. An active home that enjoys roughhousing and can handle his enthusiastic tail wags and happy licks would be ideal. He needs a loving indoor home, as he gets easily frightened by new things and is not suited to be left outside unattended. Due to his excitability and lack of impulse control, a home with children under 8 is not recommended until he has more training and acclimation.
Ongoing Health
Herbert is heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines and prevention, and has been neutered. He previously had a dental procedure with a tooth extraction, indicating he's had some past care.
Training & Support
Herbert is working on his impulse control, especially with not being mouthy for food, and he's showing great progress. He has had basic obedience training and is kennel trained. He's very submissive with other dogs but can be fearful initially, so continued socialization is recommended. He's terrified of cats and will need careful introduction and supervision. He has no idea what toys are for and will chase a ball only to run away from it! He must potty before he eats.
