About Duke

At approximately 5 months old and 30lbs, Duke is in an ideal stage of puppyhood: full of energy and curiosity while already showing signs of intelligence and eagerness to learn. This possible lab mix responds when called, works for treats, and responds well to positive reinforcement. Duke knows “sit” and is learning more commands. He is also potty and crate trained, and sleeps through the night consistently. He is working on his leash walking skills and is happy to follow the lead of another dog on a walk or in the home. Duke enjoys people and does well with other dogs. He warms up quickly, seeks out human companionship, and prefers to stay close to his people throughout the day. He has plenty of typical puppy energy and especially enjoys toys, balls, sticks, and chew toys. He’s got a head start on training, a heart full of love, and a quiet, thoughtful nature that makes his affection feel earned and genuine. Add in his resilience, and you’ve got a pretty incredible companion.

Ideal Home

Duke would do best around dogs with stable temperaments and patience for normal puppy behavior while he continues training. And as is typical of a pup, Duke can be mouthy, so a family with young kids must be aware and have a plan for this. Since he still needs leash training, we are requiring a secure fenced yard for him.

Ongoing Health

Duke successfully completed rehabilitation following FHO surgery on his back, right leg. He is able to run and play, but he must still work on exercises to continue to strengthen his leg. Duke will have delayed neutering (at age 1) to give his leg a full year to build muscle. Duke will be adopted with a delayed neuter addendum, which means he will be neutered at a later date at one of our vet partners in the Orlando area and the cost will be covered by the rescue.
