Nico is a charming Shih Tzu/Maltese mix with a heart full of love and a gentle spirit. He’s about 7.5 years old and weighs just under 13 lbs. Nico was surrendered because his previous family’s grandchildren were visiting frequently, and he wasn't comfortable with them. He also had some initial concerns about his back legs. Thankfully, after a specialist visit and X-rays, his legs are looking great, and he's cleared from any previous restrictions! Nico enjoys companionship, belly rubs, and is happy to be your one-and-only or have furry siblings. He’s a big fan of toys, especially squeaky ones, and loves to relax outdoors, observing the world go by. Nico is a pleaser at heart, eager to be a good boy and stay close to his people.
Ideal Home
Nico would thrive in a home that can provide him with regular attention and potty breaks. He’s a bit timid with young children, so a home without them would be best. He also enjoys having a yard to relax in.
Ongoing Health
Nico recently underwent dental surgery where he had approximately 11 teeth removed. His ACLs were evaluated, and he has since been cleared from any restrictions.
Training & Support
Nico is mostly house-trained but may have occasional accidents if not let out frequently enough. He is still working on leash walking and can be timid outside the home. He also needs a little help getting onto furniture and would prefer to be picked up rather than use doggy stairs. While car rides can make him a bit timid initially, he settles in well once comfortable. He is learning to be more vocal when he sees neighbors or deer, but he listens well when asked to quiet down.
