Loki is a 6.5-month-old, male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He was rescued with his mom, Wanda, and his siblings from a rural dumping area outside of Houston during a Texas freeze. Loki is the brave and bold leader of his litter, always the first to explore new things with a confident and curious spirit. He's a natural climber and loves to play keep-away with his toys. Loki is potty trained, though some accidents may occur as he adjusts to a new routine. He can be a little hesitant with new experiences, but he warms up quickly. He adores food and will always find his way to the front of the line for treats. Despite his energetic antics, Loki has a very sweet side and loves to cuddle after a day of play. He enjoys people and other dogs and has greeted children positively at community events. He's also comfortable in a crate for short periods.
Ideal Home
Loki would thrive in a home with an existing friendly, well-mannered dog to help him learn appropriate play and boundaries. If a home does not have another dog, prospective adopters must have a clear plan for continued socialization, including structured training classes, supervised daycare, or regular playdates. Homes should also be able to provide regular potty breaks, exercise, enrichment, training, and human interaction, as someone should not be routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time.
Ongoing Health
Loki is a healthy young dog.
Training & Support
Loki is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn. He is still very much an adolescent and will benefit from ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice to build his confidence and help him mature into an exceptional adult dog. Continued socialization with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs is crucial for his development.
