Chiquita is a smart, affectionate little companion who loves being close to her person. She came to us when her elderly owners' health declined, making it no longer possible for them to care for her. Chiquita is good with other dogs and thrives on routine. She sleeps quietly in her crate overnight, can comfortably stay home alone for several hours, and enjoys enrichment activities throughout the day. She's food motivated and already knows several commands, including sit, wait, down, come, leave it, and "get it." She especially enjoys training games and working for kibble or treats. Chiquita also loves car rides and going on outings with her person.

Chiquita needs an experienced, patient, adult-only home committed to meeting her where she is. An adopter who understands fearful and reactive dogs, recognizes canine body language, and is willing to continue building Chiquita's confidence through positive reinforcement and consistency will be rewarded with a devoted companion.
Ongoing Health
Chiquita has a history of behavioral challenges, particularly reactivity in situations where she became startled by loud voices or awakened by touch. Her triggers are not always obvious; she may enjoy affection one moment and react defensively the next. Additionally, Chiquita has also shown some resource guarding around toys, which has been successfully managed using treat trades and toy exchanges rather than taking items directly from her mouth.
