Gina is a 1-year-old, spayed female Belgian Malinois mix who weighs 56lbs. She was found abandoned as a tiny puppy, sleeping in a cardboard box by a busy road. Despite her rough start, Gina is now in a loving foster home and ready to find her forever family! She is a sweet and playful pup who enjoys the company of other dogs and loves to play tug-of-war. Gina is a toy enthusiast, often collecting them and keeping them in her bed. She has also learned to play fetch! She is learning to navigate her size and excitement around new dogs and people, and while she can be a bit apprehensive of unfamiliar dogs, she does well with slow introductions, especially after being attacked by other dogs in the past. She currently lives happily with small dogs and large dogs in her foster home.
Ideal Home
Gina would thrive in an active home with someone who can provide her with daily play and mental stimulation. She would do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children (10 and up) as she can be jumpy when excited and is still learning her own strength. She would also do well with a couple or someone living alone, and a home with another dog would be beneficial for companionship and to help her burn off energy. Gina is too enthusiastic about neighborhood kitties, so a cat-free home is recommended.
Ongoing Health
Gina is a healthy young dog.
Training & Support
Gina is house and crate trained and can be crated for up to 8 hours. She walks well on a leash and shows no signs of separation anxiety. She does prefer to eat her treats alone and is still in the "puppy velociraptor" stage, so she will need guidance on appropriate chew toys. Adopters should be prepared to provide regular socialization, positive training, and plenty of outlets for exercise, play, and enrichment to help her grow into a well-mannered adult.
