Maximus

Max is a loyal, protective, and affectionate 7-year-old German Shepherd weighing approximately 85 pounds. He was born on October 10, 2016, and is neutered. Max enjoys playing fetch and hide-and-seek with his squeaky toys but isn't a fan of water. He's also a polite passenger on car rides, though he may whine a bit at first. Max's current family took him in six years ago when he was about to be surrendered to a shelter. Sadly, they are now seeking a new home for him because their daughter has developed severe allergies.

Ideal Home

Max is fine with the children he lives with, ages 4½ and 1½ years old. He is OK with other dogs, especially small ones, but can get overwhelmed in crowded places like dog parks. It's unknown how Max would do with cats.

Ongoing Health

Max is generally healthy but does suffer from ear infections that require routine cleaning. He recently received his rabies and distemper/parvo boosters on July 14.

Training & Support

Max is housetrained and does well when left alone. He sleeps in a large wire crate at night. He alert-barks appropriately when new people enter the house and is fine with them once properly introduced. While he walks well on a leash without distractions, he can be reactive towards other dogs he sees. His current family uses a prong collar to redirect his attention, and his recall is great in the backyard.
