Iris was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings and is now the last of her litter waiting for her forever home. This 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. At a compact 47 pounds, Iris is goofy, playful, affectionate, and genuinely sweet, but she’s a bit selective about who sees that side of her. She thrives with a short list of trusted people, but with patience and understanding, she’s ready to expand that circle. Iris would be a dream for someone working from home and would truly flourish in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of busy streets. She absolutely adores a game of fetch with tennis balls!
Ideal Home
Iris would be a dream for someone working from home and would flourish in a quieter environment, away from the chaos of city streets. She is best suited for an adult-only home, as unpredictable energy from young children is not ideal for her.
Ongoing Health
Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs and should be fed separately if other dogs are in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is dog-selective and does best with slow, intentional introductions. She can be reactive on leash when dogs get too close, so an owner experienced in creating distance and setting up successful scenarios is recommended. She is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. Iris's reactivity is rooted in fear, and she requires slow, low-pressure introductions to build trust and confidence. Patience and consistency are key to helping her succeed.
