Gigi is a very special 1.5-year-old Rottweiler who has overcome incredible odds to find her happy ending. Found as a stray in Modesto, she was in poor health and, sadly, was scheduled for euthanasia. Thankfully, our rescue stepped in and provided her with the critical care she desperately needed.
Gigi was diagnosed with entropion, a condition where her eyelashes turned inward, causing near-total blindness and significant cranial muscle atrophy due to a rare autoimmune condition called Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM). This condition went untreated for her first year of life. After extensive treatment, including multiple surgeries and the implantation of permanent contacts, Gigi can now see! She has made a remarkable recovery and is ready to embrace life with her new vision.
Ideal Home
Gigi would thrive in a home where she can continue to learn about the world after a period of isolation during her recovery. She is still learning to socialize with new dogs and is currently dog-selective, doing best with friendly dogs who respect her space. We have not tested Gigi with children or cats, so a home without them would be ideal at this time.
Ongoing Health
Gigi is considered special needs due to her past medical conditions. While she has made a full recovery, she still cannot open her mouth more than an inch wide. This means she is at an increased risk of choking and will need to be monitored closely with toys.
Training & Support
Gigi is still learning about the world and how to interact with other dogs. Patience and gentle guidance will be key as she continues her socialization journey. Monitoring her during playtime with toys is essential due to her limited jaw mobility.
