I'm around 4 years old and on a journey to be fit again! I've been socialized with people, dogs, and cats, although I'm not a fan of everyone. Men tend to intimidate me, but with some treats, baby talk, and butt scratches, I warm up easily! Likewise, I love male dogs! I have a lot of female friends as well, but sometimes our confident personalities don't always jive well. I have even gone to doggy daycare and boarding! I have had kitty siblings in the past, but apparently, not all kitties like to play. I haven't figured out entirely how to read them yet. I prefer to not be around little/small children. I get overstimulated with the sounds and fast movements, and I'm not sure how to communicate I need space and calm, yet it's a work in progress. I'm also learning some new things from my foster mom, like not everyone likes to give hugs so I should wait until asked to offer one? Same with cuddles, but I thought everyone wanted to have me in their lap? And who said I can't say hi to the other furry friend walking across the street? I have to let them know I'm on a walk too! But I'm getting lots of treats in the process, so I guess it's cool. Although I love to be an adventure buddy, being a couch potato doesn't sound too bad either. I love my rope toy to play tug or a good bone to chew while we binge watch tv, and I always sleep with a pillow! If my mom is at work, I relax in my room with no issue. I do yell at mom when she gets home until she opens my door, but she thinks once I don't have to stay in my room exclusively, it will just be a "HI" when she gets home. I do have some foster sisters and brothers right now, and they like to greet her too. I'm starting to realize "OK" really means she heard me say "Hi." I may be a slow burner for some, but I'm ready to find my forever home!
Ideal Home
I would do best in a home without small children. I would also do best as the only dog in the home or with a male dog. While I can do well with some female dogs, I sometimes do not like a confident female. In a home with up to three other females, I have grumbled to create space and do well with verbal redirection. I do have some boundary issues within confined spaces or when food is involved, so I eat separately from my foster siblings.
Ongoing Health
No ongoing health concerns mentioned.
Training & Support
I am currently working on socializing more, respecting boundaries, leash manners, and some more basic commands such as "lie down." I am also learning that not everyone wants to give hugs and I should wait until asked to offer one, and to be mindful of personal space. I am working on my greetings at the door to be calmer and not to yell.
