A little about them
Mator is a lovable, energetic 6-month-old Coonhound with a tri-colour coat and a big personality. He is playful, loyal, food-motivated, and eager to learn, making him a wonderful adventure companion for an active home.
Mator previously suffered a spiral fracture in his leg while running in the yard. He is fully healed and has been cleared to exercise again.
Ideal Home
Mator would thrive with active individuals or families who have time to focus on puppy training and provide plenty of exercise. He enjoys fast-paced walks, fetch, yard time, hiking, running, and biking. He would do well with older children over 6 and can live with cats and other dogs. He loves his foster dog sister but could also be happy as the only dog with regular dog friends.
A fenced yard or a nearby secure fenced area is strongly recommended. Because of his hound instincts, Mator must not roam off leash outside a secure fenced area. He should wear a martingale collar on walks, as he can become scared and jumpy around passing trucks and may follow interesting scents.
Mator is a talkative hound who may howl when he hears other dogs. He is not described as a nuisance barker, though he may bark or whine briefly when crated during the day and hears activity in the home.
Ongoing Health
Mator is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and house trained. His previous leg fracture is healed, and he has been cleared to exercise. He has occasionally experienced car sickness, particularly in unfamiliar vehicles or after eating shortly before travel.
Training & Support
Mator is comfortable in his crate, voluntarily enters it for naps, and sleeps well in his crate at night. He is learning core obedience skills and picks up new commands quickly. He responds especially well to positive-reinforcement training and food rewards.
He is still a puppy and needs consistent training, supervision, socialization, and an attentive family. Post-adoption training is required as part of the adoption process.
