Bumblebee is a 2-year-old, 38lb bundle of love who found herself at PACC when her previous owners could no longer care for her. She's in urgent need of a special foster or adopter to help her recover from distemper virus. This recovery is expected to take about three months and requires a calm, supportive environment. Bumblebee comes from a home with other dogs and would likely feel more comfortable with a canine friend to show her the ropes and help her build trust with people.
Ideal Home
Bumblebee would thrive in a home with a calm, confident dog who can model good behavior. She needs a quiet space to decompress for at least two weeks, and her handlers must be patient and allow her to approach them for attention. Absolutely no forced handling during this time, which includes no petting while she's sleeping, no grabbing her collar or body, no picking her up, and no forced grooming. It's crucial to be highly aware of her body language, respecting warning signs like lip lifting, low growls, or body stiffening by creating distance and disengaging. Due to her fearful nature, she is considered a flight risk and requires an experienced handler.
Ongoing Health
Bumblebee is recovering from distemper virus, which requires approximately three months of dedicated care. PACC will provide medical guidance and support from their clinic team. Donated supplies will be provided to fosters, and fosters have the first opportunity to adopt. Distemper is not contagious to adult, fully vaccinated dogs, making many homes eligible to help.
Training & Support
Bumblebee is under-socialized and needs time to decompress and build trust. She needs an experienced handler who can recognize and manage signs of fear and startle responses. A dragline should be used for the first two weeks for safe handling. Always maintain a secure grip on the leash outdoors and avoid retractable leashes. She should never be left unsupervised outdoors, even in a fenced yard. A properly fitted martingale collar and a standard flat clip leash are required. When in an enclosed yard, a longline can provide extra exploration space while maintaining safety. Tie-outs should not be used. Bumblebee would also benefit from leash training support and positive reinforcement methods. Professional guidance is recommended and can be sought from TOP Dogs at topdogshelp@gmail.com.
