About Thib
Meet Thib!
If there was ever a dog with Louisiana running through his veins, it's Thib! This handsome hound earned his name after spending weeks living at Thib's Gas Station, where he'd become somewhat of a local celebrity. Folks would stop by with leftovers, offer him a kind word, and worry every single day that his luck would run out beside the busy four-lane highway. A few wonderful Good Samaritans even tried to rescue him, but this clever Cajun boy had other plans. After getting loose, he traveled several miles... only to find his way right back to Thib's Gas Station—the only place that felt like home. Thankfully, that familiar stop gave us a second chance, and this time we were able to bring him safely into rescue. He is missing all of his front teeth, which we believe happened when he was trying to chew his way out of a pen or off of a chain. This is sadly common for dogs in Louisiana who are neglected in this manner. He still has teeth on the side and it does not affect his chewing ability.
At about 2 years old and 45 pounds, Thib is pure Southern charm. Around here we lovingly call him “Papaw,” because he has the sweetest old-man personality. He's the kind of dog who enjoys life's simple pleasures—a good nap, a leisurely stroll, and taking his time to sniff every interesting scent along the way. Being a true hound, his nose is always hard at work! Walks are his favorite adventure, and if he catches an interesting smell, he's determined to investigate. He can get a little enthusiastic on leash, so we recommend a prong collar or other appropriate training equipment to make outings enjoyable for everyone. And in true gentlemanly fashion, Thib likes to “leave his signature around town.” On walks, he enjoys checking in with the neighborhood by leaving a few scent messages—classic hound behavior that's simply his way of introducing himself to every dog in the area.
One more thing about our sweet Cajun gentleman—he can be a bit of a Louisiana Houdini! If there's a loose board, an open gate, or a weak spot in a fence, his hound nose just might convince him it's worth investigating. Because of that, we'd recommend a securely fenced yard and not leaving him outside unattended. Truthfully, Thib would much rather be wherever his people are than spending hours outside by himself. Thib absolutely adores other dogs and gets along wonderfully with both males and females. He's very clean in his crate, has wonderful manners, and has the kind of gentle, easygoing personality that makes everyone fall in love with him. Thib's Highlights include: approximately 2 years old, around 45 pounds, hound mix, heartworm treatment complete, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives, crate trained, and wonderful with other dogs.
All Thibodeaux has ever wanted was a place to belong. He survived the dangers of highway life, charmed an entire community, and never gave up hope that someone would come for him. Now he's ready to trade gas station parking lots for a front porch, a soft bed, and a family to call his very own. As we say down here in Louisiana... Laissez les bons temps rouler! The good times are just getting started for sweet Thib.
