Meet Deuce!
Deuce is a sweet, slightly timid dog who is learning to feel safe and comfortable in new environments. He is gentle, allows handling and pets, and has been easygoing in group settings with other dogs. He also walks well on leash and continues to build confidence as he settles into care. This little nugget came to us with a jaw fracture related to a severely diseased tooth. The tooth was extracted and his jaw was stabilized with a wire. Post-stabilization x-rays showed that the lower root of another tooth may also be affected and will need to be monitored, with possible future extraction once healing is complete. The stabilization wire may also require removal once the fracture has fully healed. Despite his medical needs, Deuce remains a kind and cooperative dog who enjoys gentle attention and does well with other dogs in group settings.
Ideal Home
Deuce is looking for a calm, patient home that can support his recovery and allow him to continue healing at his own pace.
Ongoing Health
Deuce is currently undergoing significant medical treatment. He has bacterial pyoderma, a skin infection requiring ongoing veterinary care, including antibiotics, topical treatments, and follow-up monitoring. Additional test results are still pending, and his full medical history should be reviewed for complete details. He requires rechecks with the veterinary team every 2 weeks until medically cleared. NMDR recommends feeding softened food for life.
Training & Support
Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament.
