Born in early January, Mason is a 6-month-old, 32-pound Miniature American Shepherd mix who came into our care on June 11. He had spent the first two months of his puppyhood in a concrete kennel at the county shelter, waiting for someone to give him a chance. When he arrived, everything was unfamiliar and overwhelming. A leash, a crate, a dog bed—he wasn't sure what to make of any of it. When he felt worried, he would urinate submissively, and for the first couple of weeks, his instinct was simply to roll onto his back and hope the world would be kind to him. Today, Mason is ready for his next big step. He happily goes into his crate for dinner, has settled in beautifully with the other dogs at the rescue, and comes when he's called (most of the time!). Like any young puppy, he still has plenty to learn, but what stands out most is how eager he is to figure things out and make his people proud. Mason is fully vetted, on monthly preventatives, crate trained, and house trained. He's also trustworthy when left out of his crate while his foster runs errands. More than anything, Mason is looking for a family willing to keep building the confidence he's worked so hard to find. He's come a long way from the scared little puppy who didn't know what to expect from the world. Now he's ready to discover just how wonderful life can be with a family of his own.
Ideal Home
Mason would thrive with someone who has experience with young dogs or is excited to continue his training. A confident, playful canine companion would be a huge plus. He's especially bonded with his best friend, Patty, who came from the shelter with him. He looks to her for reassurance when he's unsure, and we'd love to see him have that same kind of relationship with another friendly dog in his forever home. Mason will need a securely fenced yard to burn off his puppy energy. And while he'd have a great time chasing a cat, we'd prefer he live in a cat-free home.
Ongoing Health
Mason is fully vetted and on monthly preventatives.
Training & Support
He knows his name, but he'll also happily answer to "May May," "Maybe," or "Maybe Baby." Like any young puppy, he still has plenty to learn, but what stands out most is how eager he is to figure things out and make his people proud. Mason is crate trained and house trained. He's also trustworthy when left out of his crate while his foster runs errands.
