Dixie

My name is Dixie, and I'm a 4-year-old, 17 lb girl who is looking for my forever home. I arrived at my foster home in Jonesburg, MO, after a difficult past where I wasn't treated well. Because of this, I can be quite shy and fearful of humans, but with patience and plenty of freeze-dried beef liver treats, I learn to trust! I'm a smart and curious girl who loves to explore. I was initially focused on escaping but have since discovered the joys of playing keep-away in the yard and making friends with other dogs. I especially enjoyed my "secret meetings" with a Shiba who looked just like me, and I know my turn for a forever home is coming!

Ideal Home

I need a home with people who have experience with fearful dogs and are patient as I learn to feel safe. Because I can be a door-bolter, especially when adjusting to a new place, preventing escapes is crucial. A securely fenced yard is a must, as I'm still learning to walk confidently on a leash. I do best with a friendly resident dog who can help me feel secure and adapt. While I'm good with cats, I'm likely too easily scared by young children.

I am a healthy girl, spayed and vaccinated.

Training & Support

I am learning to walk on a leash, but I'm not yet confident. I also tend to bolt through doors when I'm feeling overwhelmed or adjusting to a new environment. Patience and understanding will go a long way in helping me feel secure.
