Meet Side Eye Salvatore!

Side Eye Salvatore, or Sal, is a sweet potato of a dog with a face that says he's seen some things – and honestly, he has. He was found on the streets of Detroit and, after a stint at animal control, made his way into foster care. Sal is estimated to be about four years old and weighs around 50 lbs. He's still learning that the world can be a safe place and is discovering new things every day, like house routines and crates. He can be a bit skittish and might freeze when he's nervous, especially around doorways or unexpected surprises. While he walks okay on a leash, he truly thrives with patience, encouragement, and an adopter who understands that bravery takes time.

Ideal Home

Sal needs a patient adopter who will let him move at his own pace. He is not looking for a loud or chaotic home.

Ongoing Health

Sal is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested, and current on vaccines.

Training & Support

Sal is not a big fan of crates yet, but we are working on making crate time a positive experience. He is also still working on house training and learning his signals for needing to go outside, which will require patience, routine, and kindness. When he gets happy, he may breathe deeply in a way that sounds like a growl, but it's not aggression – it's just him expressing excitement. While he hasn't shown aggression towards the dogs in his foster home, he hasn't been tested with cats. However, based on his gentle nature, we think he may do well with slow, careful introductions.
