Titan

Titan is an 8-year-old, 130-pound Anatolian Shepherd mix who is basically a grumpy old man in a dog body. He's intelligent, independent, observant, and very aware of what's happening at all times. Titan knows exactly what he wants and expects you to know it too! He's whip-smart and will absolutely use that intelligence to hold you accountable. His routines are sacred. If he doesn't get his walk, he'll pace and stare at you until you correct your mistake. He also prefers colder weather and considers snow both enrichment and a snack. Titan is friendly with respectful children, but he is not a dog who enjoys kids climbing on him, crowding him, or getting in his face. Because he takes his personal space seriously, we feel he would do best with children around 10 years old and up who understand boundaries and can respect when he wants his space. He is also protective of his food and treats, so mealtimes should be supervised and respected. While Titan has not yet been formally tested one-on-one with another dog, he has shown encouraging signs. He does not bark, snarl, or react negatively to the neighbor's dogs through the fence and has even allowed friendly nose-to-nose interactions through the chain link. Because of this, we believe he may do well with the right canine companion - specifically an older, calmer dog who isn't overly energetic or constantly in his face. Any introductions should be done thoughtfully, and feeding or treats should initially be given separately until everyone learns the routine. Titan absolutely thrives on routine and finds comfort in structure, predictability, and knowing what comes next. Changes to his schedule can be stressful for him, and he is happiest when life follows a familiar rhythm. Titan currently lives with three cats and has adjusted well. He's even befriended one and occasionally attempts to play, although he doesn't always understand that he outweighs his feline friends by more than a few pounds. Dog-savvy cats with safe spaces to retreat to would be important. Titan also experiences separation anxiety and forms incredibly strong bonds with his people. He will often wait to eat or drink until his favorite person returns home from work, preferring their presence before settling in. Because of this, Titan would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not - retired adopters, work-from-home households, or people with flexible schedules would be ideal.

Ideal Home

Titan requires an experienced adopter who understands guardian breeds. He needs a physically fenced yard to patrol and oversee his kingdom, a home that understands and respects his boundaries, a person home most of the time, and structure, routine, and consistency. He would do best with children around 10 years old and up who understand boundaries. Dog-savvy cats with safe spaces to retreat to are important.
