About Nico

Nico is a 3-year-old, 12-pound chocolate Poodle with adorable pops of white throughout his coat and a hopeful heart that's ready for a fresh start. Nico was surrendered when his family decided they no longer wanted him. They reported that he had "become aggressive," but provided no additional details. Since arriving in our care, however, Nico has been nothing but a good boy. While he can be a little timid when meeting new people, he has handled all the changes in stride. Our team and volunteers have been able to handle him without issue, and Nico regularly seeks out pets, affection, and companionship. One thing that was noticeable is the condition of Nico's coat. Severely matted fur can be uncomfortable and even painful, and we can't help but wonder whether discomfort may have contributed to some of the concerns reported by his previous family. Our volunteers are patiently working through his coat to help him feel more comfortable and confident. According to his former family, Nico walks nicely on a leash, is fully house-trained, loves treats, and has plenty of energy. We suspect he may have simply needed more exercise, enrichment, and attention than he was receiving. Like many smart Poodles, Nico appears to thrive when given opportunities to engage with people and the world around him. Nico is looking for a family that will see him for who he is today: a sweet, affectionate dog who deserves patience, understanding, and a second chance. With a little time to settle in and a home committed to meeting his physical and emotional needs, we think Nico's best days are still ahead of him. If you're ready to show a deserving dog what it means to be truly loved, Nico is waiting to meet you.
