Rowena

Rowena is a sweet 11-year-old, 60lb Lab mix with a heart of gold and a past that has made her a bit cautious. She was found in 2019 protecting her puppies in Oklahoma, and while she's come a long way, she's looking for a patient and understanding adopter to help her continue to heal. Rowena is house and kennel trained and is eager to learn the ropes of being a beloved pet. She loves spending time outdoors and would be happiest with a physically fenced yard, preferably with privacy fencing, as she does have a tendency to guard her territory. Due to some anxieties, she's not suited for apartment living and may need to be muzzled on walks in unfamiliar areas.

Ideal Home

Rowena would thrive in a structured environment with a dog-savvy owner who can provide her with the consistency she needs. A physically fenced yard is a must, and privacy fencing is preferred. Due to her past experiences, invisible fencing is not an option. She is not a good fit for a home with children, as fast movements and small creatures are not her strong suit.

Ongoing Health

Rowena has completed heartworm treatment and will require an adopter committed to keeping her on preventatives and attending regular testing.

Training & Support

Rowena is food protective with other dogs and will need to be fed separately or in her kennel as a precaution. She does well with other dogs, provided they are not small enough to be mistaken for prey animals, as she has a tendency to chase cats. With time and patience, Rowena warms up and enjoys snuggling, giving kisses, and hugs.
