About JD aka John Doe
Some dogs dream of plush beds. Some dogs dream of endless treats. JD dreams of mud! And if there isn't a suitable mud hole available, JD is more than willing to dig one himself. Why wait for luxury when you can build it? He gets regular baths because of his favorite hobby, and while he generally tolerates the process, he isn't afraid to express himself when he's ready for the spa day to be over.
JD came to Husky Halfway House 5 months ago from the shelter in Avenal, California. He's still waiting for a family of his own, but he's made quite an impression on the people around him. When Tracy came to visit the rescue and help clean kennels, JD made it very clear that cleaning was not the most important task on the schedule. The most important task was paying attention to JD! Every time she started cleaning, he'd put his paws up on her shoulders and demand affection. When it was time to leave, JD had a strategy for that too. He'd wrap his long front legs around Tracy's shoulders and hold on. If you've ever had a toddler cling to your leg because they weren't ready for you to leave, imagine that, but taller and furrier.
According to Carter, JD is a sasshole with dogs and a doofus with people. And honestly, that's a pretty fair assessment. JD has plenty of opinions and isn't afraid to share them with other dogs. That said, he's not exactly running the yard. His notes suggest that some of the other huskies occasionally remind him that there are bigger sassholes in the world. When it comes to people, though, JD is all heart. He genuinely loves people.
JD isn't looking for a family that wants a decorative dog. At around 3 years old, JD is a tall, energetic husky mix who would love an active family. He's looking for people to do things with – people to hike with, people to explore with, people to follow around the yard offering unsolicited supervision, and people who won't mind a muddy nose appearing in the middle of whatever project they're working on. He's the kind of dog who wants to be involved in life, not just watch it from the sidelines. For the right family, that's exactly what makes him special. For now, he's a muddy, affectionate goofball who thinks personal space is more of a suggestion than a rule.
If you're looking for a tall, adventurous husky mix with a big personality and an even bigger love for his people, JD may be your guy.
