About Roof (MR26-324)
Meet Roof!
Roof is a 10-month-old Pomeranian/Husky mix weighing 24 pounds, still figuring out that the world-and the people in it-can be safe and kind. New faces can feel overwhelming for him at first, but with patience, consistency, and a gentle approach, his curious and playful personality begins to emerge.
Roof takes a lot of comfort from other dogs and often looks to them for reassurance and guidance. Because of this, he must go to a home with a confident, well-adjusted dog who can help him navigate daily life and continue building confidence.
When he feels safe, Roof enjoys toys and stuffed animals and finds joy in simple, low-pressure play. He is still learning how to process new experiences and will thrive in a calm, structured home that allows him to move at his own pace without pressure or expectation.
Roof is very sensitive to handling and can become overwhelmed if approached too quickly or introduced to too much at once. He is currently working on confidence-building, handling exercises, and leash skills with our team. His future family will need to be committed to continued positive reinforcement training, gentle desensitization, and allowing him space when he needs it.
Roof is currently exhibiting elevated fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) in kennel settings, including pacing, escape-oriented behavior, and heightened sensitivity to movement. These behaviors are understood as fear-based responses, and his care plan is focused on helping him feel safer and more regulated over time.
Because of his sensitivity and behavior profile, Roof requires elevated safety awareness and structured management to support his success. His adopter must be prepared to use secure handling equipment, including a properly fitted harness, and is strongly encouraged to use additional safety tools such as a GPS tracker. He will also benefit from structured management tools such as x-pens and carefully controlled environments to support safe adjustment in the home. A secure fenced yard is required to give Roof a safe space to decompress, explore, and continue building confidence at his own pace. A steady, patient home with another confident dog is essential to his success.
A required in-person meet and greet will help ensure the best possible match for both Roof and his future family.
If you're experienced with sensitive dogs and ready to help a young dog grow into confidence one small step at a time, Roof may be the right fit for you.
Many NMDR dogs have had limited prior socialization and may need time, patience, and support as they adjust to home life. Skills such as house training, leash walking, and handling may require continued practice. Progress will vary by individual dog. Homes with older children are often a good fit, depending on temperament. To learn more about NMDR and our adoption process, please visit our website.
