About Scarlet

Meet Scarlet, a delightful 2.5-year-old Lab and Dachshund mix, weighing about 30lbs. Scarlet came to us with her litter of puppies and was initially quite unsocialized. Since then, she's blossomed in her foster home and has become a well-adjusted companion. She's house-trained, crate-trained, and gets along famously with cats. After a gentle introduction, she's also proven to be a wonderful friend to the dogs in her foster home. Scarlet is working on her confidence, especially with new experiences and people, but she's made amazing progress! She's a sensitive soul who thrives on quiet companionship and will let you know with a gentle bark when she's looking for you. She’s not a barker out the window, but she does love to be near her people and enjoys affection once she feels comfortable. Scarlet has never shown any signs of aggression and walks beautifully on a leash, eager to explore the world at her own pace. She knows "leave it," loves to sniff, and enjoys watching squirrels.

Ideal Home

Scarlet would thrive in a quiet and patient home with a person or couple who understand her need for gentle introductions and time to adjust. She'd do well with someone with a low to moderately active lifestyle. Because she can be stressed by a lot of noise and energy, she would not do well in a home with children. She needs to be walked on a leash as she has a history of digging out of yards when unsupervised and is a flight risk if she gets out. Scarlet absolutely thrives with another playful dog in the home, and we'll be prioritizing adopters who have a resident dog for her to bond with.

Ongoing Health

Scarlet is up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and is on monthly preventatives.

Training & Support

Scarlet is house-trained and crate-trained. While she's made great strides in her confidence, she is still working on overcoming nervousness around new things and people. She sometimes barks when her people are out of sight, simply letting them know she's looking for them. She loves to be near her people and enjoys affection once she knows you.
