About Sentry

Sentry is a 6.5-month-old, male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He is being fostered in Houston, Texas. A photo of his mom, Wanda, is included in the profile for reference. She weighs approximately 55 pounds.

This sweet pup and his family were rescued from the woods in a rural, well-known dumping area outside of Houston. Wanda gave birth to her litter during a Texas freeze, and a kind networker discovered her with her puppies. Sentry and his siblings were brought to the safety of a foster home, where they've had the chance to grow up loved and cared for.

Sentry wakes up every day happy and eager to engage with the world. He loves to cuddle, play with his siblings, and go for walks. He adores people and other dogs, and truly loves life! He's the kind of dog who brings joy wherever he goes, known for being goofy, affectionate, playful, and endlessly loving. He will greet you with enthusiasm every single day.

As an older puppy, Sentry is a wonderful combination of playful energy and a budding calm companion. He is potty trained and is developing into a confident, affectionate, and well-rounded dog. He is outgoing, friendly, and always ready to make a new friend, whether it's meeting new people, playing with other dogs, or soaking up attention. Sentry is eager to be included in whatever you're doing.

He has been raised alongside his littermates and his mom and loves playing with other dogs. He has not been tested with cats but has done well around children. He recently attended a community event where he happily received attention from both adults and kids. He is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn.

Ideal Home

Sentry is still an adolescent and is continuing to learn about the world. He's looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building his confidence, and helping him mature into an exceptional adult dog. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help him thrive. Continued socialization is crucial for a dog his age, with safe, positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs. We prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide Sentry. If you don't currently have a dog, we'd love to hear your plan for continued socialization, which might include structured training classes, regular playdates with trusted dogs, or supervised daycare. Because Sentry is still young, we also prefer homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time.
