About Shelby

Shelby has a shiny black coat with white markings on her chest, feet, and the tip of her tail. She has a smooth coat and appears to be predominantly American Lab. Vets estimate she was born around January 26, 2026. Shelby and her littermates were rescued from a dump in Kentucky when they were about 16 weeks old. At 18 weeks, Shelby weighed 22 pounds, so she's expected to be a medium-sized dog, around 45-55 pounds when fully grown.

Shelby is a confident and friendly pup who loves adults, children, and other dogs. She enjoys playing, chasing, and wrestling with her siblings and has done well in playdates with four adult dogs. She's also been exposed to five children between the ages of 6 and 13 and handles rough play well, showing a gentle nature and enjoying human companionship. She's learning to walk on a leash, doing pretty well with occasional encouragement.

Ideal Home

Shelby would do best with another dog that enjoys playing. She would also benefit from a fenced yard, as she loves to explore and sniff around.

Ongoing Health

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations, including bordetella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and receive preventative care for heartworm, fleas, and ticks.

Training & Support

Shelby is crate trained and has made great progress with house training, with only a couple of accidents recently. She rides well in the car, though she may experience some mild car sickness on rough, long rides. She's food motivated, which should make training easier. Shelby has average energy levels; she'll happily play in the yard with other dogs but is content to relax on her own in the house. She sleeps through the night quietly in her crate.
