Meet Norman!
Norman is a snuggly, 73-pound, four-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pitbull Terrier mix with a heart as big as his frame. Affectionately nicknamed the “velvet hippo,” Norman is a gentle and goofy soul who loves cuddles, comfy dog beds, and spending quality time with his people. He’s a classic couch potato with a silly streak, often flopping onto his back for a belly rub. Walks, training games, and belly rubs are high on his list of favorite things. He thrives with love and structure, and his routine is flexible as long as he has someone to nap near and a little mental stimulation each day. Norman is crate trained, house-trained, and knows several commands including “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and “place.” He’s currently mastering “leave it” and responds well to positive reinforcement and consistency.
Ideal Home
Norman does best in a calm, structured environment with a secure, fenced yard. He is not a good fit for homes with small children. He can be compatible with older, respectful children and some dogs, provided slow introductions are made.
Ongoing Health
Norman is up-to-date on vaccinations and neutered. He is generally healthy, but his new family should be aware that he has shown reactivity in certain situations.
Training & Support
Norman is crate trained, house-trained, and knows several commands. He is currently mastering "leave it." His adoption includes four professional training sessions and a full month of behavioral guidance from a consultant to help with his transition. He needs continued obedience training and positive reinforcement to stay confident and successful on walks. Careful introductions and continued guidance are needed for him outside the home.
