Hi, I’m Jake! I’m a 1-year-old, 57-pound black Lab with a big heart, a wiggly body, and absolutely no idea I’m missing a leg. Yep—I’ve got three legs, but in my mind (and in my daily activities), I’m operating on a full set. Running, playing, zooming, being a lovable clutz… all systems go.
I’ve had a lot happen in my short life. I ended up at a shelter already missing my left rear leg, but wherever I came from, I didn’t bring any “woe is me” attitude with me. I’m happy, social, and very much a typical Lab—which means I love my people and want to be part of everything you’re doing.
I do great with other dogs, but I’ll be honest—I can be a bit… enthusiastic. I really love to play and interact, and sometimes my excitement can be a little much for more laid-back dogs. Think “overly friendly party guest who doesn’t realize the party ended an hour ago.” Most of all I love my people and just want to be with them.
When I first arrived in my foster home, I had a little trouble settling in. Big changes can be a lot, even for a happy guy like me. I’ve been started on Fluoxetine to help with some anxiety, and it’s made a big difference. I’m much more relaxed now. I may not need it forever, but for now it helps—and it only costs about $0.20 a day.
If you’re looking for a loyal, goofy, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing and remind you daily that joy doesn’t come from perfection, I might just be your guy. Three legs, zero limitations, and a lifetime of love to give.
Ideal Home
Jake would thrive in a home that can provide him with plenty of opportunities to play and interact. He needs a physically fenced yard so he can safely enjoy his zoomies. He needs to be in an indoor home.
Ongoing Health
Jake is currently being treated with Fluoxetine for anxiety, which has been very effective. The medication is inexpensive.
Training & Support
Jake pulls on the leash and will need consistent guidance to learn to walk nicely. His enthusiasm with other dogs can sometimes be overwhelming for more laid-back pups.
