Sugar is as sweet as her name, an extremely good-natured miniature dachshund with a winning personality and a constantly wagging tail. She loves people, treats, toys, and cuddles, sleeping on a warm blanket, and taking gentle walks through the neighborhood – she wasn’t exercised much in her prior life, so she goes slowly. She gets on well with her current foster brother, another rescue dachshund, and is generally dog-friendly, but would be happy as an only pup as she would rather play with toys than other dogs and definitely craves human attention. She can be reactive with larger dogs when out on a walk, but stops when told to. She also has a loud bark for her size and will bark at home when something interesting is outside. Sugar is a fast learner, a good listener, crate and potty trained, and knows how to use a pee mat (although she’d much rather go outside and sniff around first, so we’re sure she’d love a backyard to explore). She would definitely prefer to sleep in the big bed, but has been doing well sleeping in her crate with something nice to chew at bedtime. She is extremely food motivated, which helps with training, and eats from a slow feeder bowl so she doesn’t gulp down her food too fast. Sugar was quite neglected before her surrender, so her hair is a little thin in some places, but her coat has recovered quite quickly and is smooth and glossy again. She suffered a false pregnancy as a younger dog but has now been spayed and also had to have a few teeth removed, although her remaining ones should stay in good shape with regular brushing. Sugar is a great dog and would be a wonderful addition to your home and family.
