Truffles is a beautiful approximately 3-year-old, 50 lb Lab mix who is looking for her forever home. She was rescued from a horrific hoarding situation where she lived in an outdoor pen with many other dogs and was quite feral. Over the past year, Truffles has made amazing progress, but she will likely never be an overly affectionate or carefree dog. She needs an adopter who understands her past and has the patience to help her continue to blossom.
Ideal Home
Truffles needs a home with a fenced-in yard, as she is not a fan of leashed walks. She loves to run and play with her canine companions. She is also looking for a home with at least one resident dog, as she takes great solace in having canine friends and needs the confidence of a friend to know she can trust her humans. She is fine with dog-savvy cats. Her adoption is contingent on her finding a home with another dog. She has not been evaluated with children. If she were to be placed with children, they would need to be old enough to give her space and understand she is a special girl who is not interested in attention.
Ongoing Health
Truffles has significant skin allergies and is allergic to many things. She is currently on daily fish oil supplements and Solliquin, as well as Apoquel. She is also on a salmon grain-free diet and takes Credelio monthly for flea and tick prevention. When she experiences a flare-up, she requires medicated baths twice weekly.
Training & Support
Truffles is house-trained and crate-trained. Her crate is her happy place, and she loves to chew on her toys and bones in it. She will only willingly leave her crate to go outside with her bestie. If her bestie doesn't go outside, Truffles will bark and return to her crate. You cannot stand near her crate or the door, otherwise, she won't go out or come in. She will allow people to climb into her crate for scratches and love but will not willingly leave her crate for attention. She occasionally ventures out for treats but not consistently. Truffles will allow herself to be carried to the couch and will lay quietly in your lap while getting lots of love. She is a work in progress in the car; if her bestie is with her, she is happy, but she will shake if she is alone. She is also a work in progress on leash. If her bestie is with her and she is on a chain leash, she will take a few steps. Otherwise, she growls, chews the leash, and puts all four breaks on. Truffles can be a bit rough when playing with other dogs but loves all dogs.
