Big Boy Buddy

Buddy is a 6-year-old, 85-pound German Shepherd who is truly a "big boy" in every sense of the word – big paws, big personality, and a heart full of love ready to bond with a new person. He found himself here after a tragic family event, and while the changes have been difficult, he's a resilient soul yearning for stability and a fresh start. Buddy enjoys spending his days outdoors, exploring the yard with his nose, and soaking in the world around him. His absolute favorite activity is a game of fetch; he'll enthusiastically chase any ball or toy you throw, though he believes the game is "you throw it, I keep it" – returning the toy is optional in his book! He has been a joy to our volunteers, enjoying attention and company, and is happiest when included in his person's day.

Ideal Home

Buddy would do best as the only dog in the home, as he is not dog-friendly. He has not been tested with cats.

Ongoing Health

Buddy is heartworm positive. A less invasive treatment plan has been recommended by his veterinarian due to his age, and his heartworm treatment for the year is already covered. He will need some extra management and care, but this does not prevent him from living a full and happy life.

Training & Support

Buddy believes the game of fetch is "you throw it, I keep it," so patience and consistency will be key in teaching him to return toys.
